MONICA KENNEDY

Monica, E-RYT began practicing yoga in 2001 as an adjunct to running and loved it from the start. Beyond the athleticism, she found yoga to be a great stress reliever and heart opener. Each class she attended fueled her desire to teach yoga.
Monica completed her Yoga Alliance 200 hour teacher training in Iyengar-style yoga with Kim Valeri of yogaspirit® studios. After completing the YA requirements, she earned the distinction of E-RYT. She has also trained in vinyasa yoga, yoga for seniors and children, core yoga, Pilates, and Essentrics (Classical Stretch). Her passion for yoga extends to many different styles, from Vinyasa and Power to Bikram and Yin and Anti-Gravity yoga and she continues to study at the YA 500 hour yoga therapy level in addition to deeper studies of the anatomy of yoga. She attends national workshops and intensives with renowned teachers, among her favorites are: Seane Corn, Kathryn Budig and Jill Miller. Highlights of her teaching career have included presenting at the Quinnipiac University “Celebrating Women’s Creativity Conference” and volunteer teaching at her home town of Newtown’s Yoga Festival in support of the Sandy Hook Promise with guest teachers Seane Corn and Beryl Bender Birch.

Monica believes that asana is an extremely beautiful part of the practice of yoga and brings an intuitive awareness to both yoga biomechanics and assists. She works to inspire her students to be open to what yoga can bring to their own lives. She encourages her students to move with gratitude and practice with self acceptance and compassion while challenging self imposed limitations, the cornerstones of her own practice.
